The French have a great tradition of wedding toasts, speeches and toasts. I am often confronted with the situation that while on the Hungarian side we can hardly find a single applicant who will speak, on the French side there are up to four or five delicatessen with great enthusiasm.<\/p>\n\n

Who makes speeches?<\/h2>\n\n

Speeches are usually made by immediate family members, parents-in-law, siblings, witnesses, best friends. Of course, there are also times when an aunt, uncle or even a grandparent wants to have the floor. One thing is important: so everyone is NOT. I also think it is important to pay attention to proportions. Maybe the two families or the two nationalities have very different temperaments in this respect, and there are crowds of people lining up on the French side, while on the Hungarian side you can hardly find a single speaker, so try to strike a balance. There should be at least one speaker from each of you.<\/p>\n\n

How many speeches?<\/h2>\n\n

During a wedding, you can maybe fit in 3-4 speeches without it being forced and boring, but even that needs to be carefully composed. But more than that is bound to have a negative effect. If you include 2-3 well-composed speeches, that is probably the most ideal amount from all points of view.<\/p>\n\n

How do we schedule it?<\/h2>\n\n

Speeches are usually scheduled for the beginning of dinner. You can have 2 speeches in a row, but if there are more speakers, you will have to split the speeches into several blocks. The break after the first course can also be a good moment to listen to a toast or two, but if you still can’t find time for all the speakers, then the cocktail, or French vin d’honneur<\/em> can be spelled out in a speech.<\/p>\n\n

The masters of rhetoric<\/h2>\n\n

For the French, a wedding toast is not usually a two-sentence, off-the-cuff affair. They build their speeches with excellent rhetorical finesse, striking the perfect balance between touching moments and incorporating funny, childhood memories.<\/p>\n\n
